Location: | Hendon, Middlesex |
Client: | Mace |
Contract: | 36 weeks |
The new training centre replaces the old Peel Centre in Aerodrome Road and forms part of a full-scale, £35 million overhaul of the Metropolitan Police’s land holdings to be delivered by main contractor Mace.
A wider regeneration programme is planned that will eventually see the rest of the 73 acre site given up for the development of 1,650 new homes, cycle routes, retail units and a primary school and nursery, as well as a substantial amount of open green space.
The force’s Hendon centre has built up a worldwide reputation for police training, with a distinguished history stretching back to 1934. However, police operational requirements have changed dramatically over the years and the older buildings have long been considered expensive, outdated, and underused. The new development is designed to meet the need for a training facility more suited to modern-day policing.
